Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 October 2026
Benchsmart ("we", "us") helps retail businesses measure and improve how they're performing. This page explains, in plain English, what personal information we collect, why, and what we do with it. It follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Who we are
Benchsmart is run by James Melton. You can reach us at workwithus@benchsmart.nz.
What we collect
Contact details you give us through our forms: your name, email, phone and business details.
Business information you choose to share, such as how many stores you have and rough figures like your wages %, average sale and conversion rate.
Trading data you send us for a Performance Review or ongoing work, such as sales, transactions, wage cost and labour hours. We'll ask you to send this through a private shared folder, not through the website.
Website usage data, such as which pages are visited, through standard analytics.
Why we collect it
To reply to your enquiry and book your chat.
To deliver the service you've asked us for.
To benchmark your performance and prepare your report.
To improve our website and services.
We don't sell your information, and we won't send you marketing you haven't asked for.
How we store and protect it
Your information is kept in reputable cloud services, and only people who need it can access it. Trading data is kept in a separate folder for each client, and access is removed once the work is delivered. We only keep information for as long as we need it, or as long as the law requires.
Sharing
We don't share your personal information with anyone else, except the service providers that run our website, email and storage, or where the law requires it. If we ever publish benchmarks, they use combined, anonymous figures that can't identify your business.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Just email workwithus@benchsmart.nz and we'll respond within 20 working days. If you're not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date at the top.
